Who this handbook is for

For tech and health hires, study, and Stamp 1 / 4 holders counting five years’ residence.

How to visit, and for how long

Ireland keeps its own visitor visa and waiver list, separate from Schengen and the UK. Chinese passports usually need a visitor visa. Short stays are not work. A UK ETA is not permission to enter Ireland.

How to work or reside

The Critical Skills Employment Permit targets listed, well-paid roles and is family-friendly. The General permit needs a labour-market test. Graduates may use the Third Level Graduate Programme.

PR and citizenship

After about five years of lawful work residence you may obtain Stamp 4, i.e. stay without an employment permit. Citizenship also usually needs five reckonable years and is sensitive to absences. Confirm with ISD.

Time to PR:2 years Critical Skills or 5 years general work
