Thailand travel, immigration and PR

Thailand is one of the most-searched travel handbooks here: visa exemption has lengthened, while long stays run through Elite, LTR and DTV rather than a classic skilled-migration grid.

Who this handbook is for

For holidays, retirement, remote work, and people who want Bangkok or Chiang Mai without an employer sponsor.

How to visit, and for how long

Many passports enter visa-exempt; the stay has moved between 30 and 60 days — use current Immigration and MFA notices. Chinese visa exemption has also been trial-extended. Exemption is not work permission; overstay fines and bans are common.

How to work or reside

Work needs Non-B plus a work permit. Long stays use Thailand Privilege (Elite), LTR for wealthy or remote workers, and DTV for digital nomads and study-adjacent stays. Those products are residence, not PR or a passport.

PR and citizenship

PR is quota-capped, usually after years on a non-immigrant visa in investment, work or family classes. Citizenship is longer and tests language and residence. Most foreigners simply renew long-stay visas.

Time to PR:After several years on a non-immigrant visa; annual quota
